NFL 2021 Kickoff Pick’Em Competition 10

Not hedging either!!! Let’s go, I didn’t think of the fact that potentially no one will win if raiders win.

Someone wins, regardless. If 5 people end up 6-1 then the $500 gets chopped 5 ways. If I could copy/paste the votes into a spreadsheet, I could determine how each player did, but the way it’s displayed, I can’t get at the player names without hovering my mouse over each icon. Doing it manually would take me longer than just waiting for the mods to post results! LOL

I really know very little about football and usually just do a blind pick. Like rushing and passing yards… hahaha I don’t even know who those players are.

One week I got all but 1! One of these days my rando picks will pay off LOL.

Hey, I have to tell you: I carefully chose my picks two weeks ago. Researched team records, offensive and defensive stats, player stats, blah, blah, blah. And I was perfect! Perfectly wrong. Went 0-7! Last week I mostly did the same thing. Was 2-5. This week I told my wife “Just flip coins.” We mostly both picked randomly, although I went with a couple hunches (most were wrong). She was less influenced by hunches (I did tell her two minutes before 1:00 to change her Rothlisberger pick because he wasn’t going to play!). And she got them all right (so far). There is very little chance knowledge is going to get you to 7-0 in these. Most are close games that are at best 60-40 situations, and upsets happen ALL THE TIME. The mods aren’t chosing lopsided games; they’re mostly toss-ups, both with picking winners as well as player stats. I think from here on out I’m going literally flip coins for each pick! (But it is worthwhile for player picks to at least google their names and see if they’re in the news for being injured.)

Congratulations @KPost13 and Mrs. Deviant, a/k/a @HoosierMama!

(And hopefully no one el$e!)

Thank you! I did a calculation and on average 0.98 of a person would get it right, therefore it should just be us two

Wooo-Hooo! 7/7! Kudos to my husband for being as amused as I am that I won this week!

The funny thing is all my picks but one were 100% emotional picks. After my husband spent hours researching and working on his spreadsheet a couple of weeks ago, he went 0/7. We usually discuss our picks, but this week, he told me, “Just flip a coin this week.” When I made my last-minute picks, this is how I chose them:

Patriots v Browns: “Patriots are awesome, and I have no idea how the Browns are doing. Patriots.”

Kyle Pitts v Amari Cooper: “Kyle Pitts…. cool name! Kyle Pitts.”

Jared Goff v Ben Roethlisberger: “Never heard of Jared Goff, but I know Roethlisberger. Ben Roethlisberger.” Husband: “Did you pick Roethlisberger?” Me: “Yes.” Husband: “Go change it! Quick! He’s out with COVID!” Me: ”Jared Goff.”

LA Chargers v Minnesota Vikings: “I’m still pissed that the Chargers left San Diego. Vikings.”

Denver Broncos v Philadelphia Eagles: “I’m still pissed that Manning had to leave Indy to go to Denver. Philly is close to my home state of NJ. Philadelphia Eagles.”

Russell Wilson v Aaron Rodgers or Jordan Love: “Never heard of Wilson. Aaron Rodgers! Cool! And Jordan Love has a very cool name. Aaron Rodgers or Jordan Love.”

Kansa City Chiefs v Las Vegas Raiders: “John Gruden is a jerk, and I will still NEVER EVER bet on the Raiders. For ANYTHING. EVER. Really. Kansas City Chiefs.”

7/7 baby! LOL!!

Congrats, KPost13! I’m guessing your win was a little more deserving than mine LOL

I did that a couple ways, both of which differed from your method, I’m sure. I came up with 1.1 and 1.2 with the two methods.

155 people answered all 7 questions (it’s possible it was less, but the smallest number of players was on the Browns-Patriots game, so I’m going with that).

7 binary questions, so 1 / 2^7 = 1/128 * 155 contestants = 1.2.

I also took each question to see how many people answered correctly, and assumed there was no correlation between their ability to answer each question correctly. So that was a similar concept, but instead of 7 questions each chosen randomly, I used the percentage that got each of the 7 questions correct: 53%, 52%, 74%, 29%, 40%, 45%, and 68%. Multiplying those 7 percentages x 155 = 1.1.

So both methods resulted in nearly the same result.

Lastly, I was bored, so I looked at the 45 contestants who picked the Vikings and then compared that to the 62 who picked the Eagles. Did that with two more contests and it got whittled down to just the 2: you and HoosierMama. So there’s no doubt you two will each win $250.

Congrats!

I actually used the same 2nd method you used, however I was like 1 percentage point lower than you idk how lol. But thanks for the extra research and confirmation!

Does anyone know when rewards will be paid out?

Should be today, but recently they didn’t do it until the next day for some reason. I’m guessing the person who does it called out sick on Monday.

Curious, not my business, but how will you play through the bonus? My wife and I are poker players, so despite the obvious sports expertise she demonstrated in her post explaining her picks, we’ll probably just play sit-and-gos and a few bigger poker tournaments. As I understand the formula, she’ll need to play $50 worth of poker “rake” or entry fees to earn the $250 bonus. With the sit-and-gos we play, that’s $1,000 worth of them.

Yeah I’m pretty sure I’ll just use the bonus on sports betting, not really familiar with casino because I’m pretty new to betting. I heard it was 5x rollover but I could be wrong. Will have to see

Yep, you heard correctly. It’s stated at the top of this page. 5x for sports betting. That’s also (sort of) true for poker. It says 3x for poker points, and you earn 15 points for every dollar of rake, so effectively it’s 5x for poker, but it’s 5 times your rake, not 5 times your buy-in. So entering a $55 ($50+$5) multi-table tournament counts for $5, not $50 or $55. So my wife would need to play ten of those to pay a total of $50 rake, earning 50x15=750 poker points, which is 3x the $250. I THINK! :joy: We’ll see if I understand this correctly. She and I have played through dozens of poker bonuses over the past couple decades, but it’s been years since we did one on Bovada, and they’ve changed their poker bonus system since we last had bonuses to play through.

3 weeks ago they posted the results on Tuesday at 4:22 p.m.
2 weeks ago they posted the results on Monday at 8:33 a.m.
1 week ago they posted the results on Monday at 8:58 a.m.

My concern is those three announcements came from Ryan_Bovada, and he’s listed as being “temporarily unavailable until Dec. 5” Hopefully another one of the @moderators will do it and we won’t have to wait 3 more weeks!

Oh damn I didn’t think about that, one of the others needs to clutch up

Hey everyone, We will have the winners announced and credited shortly. I’m happy to say that @Ryan_Bovada became a father over the weekend which is why he will be out for the next few weeks.

Awesome. Congratulations @Ryan_Bovada! :baby: I know our household considers a few extra hours of wait to be a minor inconvenience compared to a new father spending time with his growing family! :hugs:
