Very smart picks, @TheGreedyFish !! As it turns out, the only way you can catch up and tie for 3rd place is with all the contrarian picks you made. (Everyone picked Yale over Penn; the other 6 picks are all contested in various combinations.)

You’ll have to have every one of your picks come through to tie @CLew21 for third and go to the tiebreakers. The “glass half empty” side to that is that if and when any of today’s picks lose, you’re locked into 4th.

Still nothing to hang your head over! 64 people played this tournament, so 4th place would mean you beat out 60 others and collected the $50 4th place prize, plus the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 prizes along the way. So well done, regardless.

Anyway, not sure if you analyzed it, but I have it all in a spreadsheet with all sorts of formulas, and I just played out the “what ifs” for you.

Good luck!

Yeah I figured I was in trouble so may as well pick a bunch of underdogs and see what happens :crossed_fingers:

Thanks @StndrDeviant

Yep. The only other thing you could have done to be even more contrarian was pick Penn over Yale. As I write this it’s 67-65! Could go either way. But all four of you picked Yale, so it’s moot. Understandable, as Yale was about a 9 point favorite, the biggest favorite of the four games.

OMG, T.J. Power is a DUDE! Has to get drafted!

Congrats to @ngiftakis who has locked up a potentially all-important Tiebreaker #1, making the other two tiebreakers moot. Acuff scored 30 points, and your pick of 28 was higher than anyone else’s (26, 20, 17) and therefore was the closest pick.

Looks like first place comes down to the Michigan/Purdue total! Good luck @BomboRiviera

Let’s Geaux Over in the Michigan game now, for the first game total over today haha. (Doesn’t look great)

Good tiebreaker pick on Acuff also @ngiftakis

I agree with ngiftakis. The winner of the Purdue-Michigan game is now irrelevant to the contest results as the top three in the standings all picked Michigan.

It all comes down to total points. If the total score is UNDER 152.5, here is what the results will be:

Final Four Contest

Place Contestant Pts Prize
1st @BomboRiviera 24 $350.00
2nd @ngiftakis 23 $200.00
3rd @CLew21 22 $100.00
4th @TheGreedyFish 18 $50.00

Lurker Contest

Place Contestant Pts Prize
1st @Jackreed05 23 $250.00
2nd StndrDeviant 20 $125.00
3rd @Camelwak1257 13 $75.00
4th BomboRiviera 12 $50.00

If the points total OVER 152.5, here is what the results will be:

Final Four Contest

Place Contestant Pts Prize
1st ngiftakis 24 $350.00
2nd CLew21 23 $200.00
3rd BomboRiviera 23 $100.00
4th TheGreedyFish 19 $50.00

Lurker Contest

Place Contestant Pts Prize
1st ngiftakis 15 (tied) $187.50
2nd StndrDeviant 15 (tied) $187.50
3rd Jackreed05 13 (tied) $62.50
4th @Shearwall 13 (tied) $62.50

CLew21 would beat out BomboRiveria for 2nd based on the tiebreaker #1. CLew21 guessed Acuff would score 26 (only 4 away from his 30 points), Bombo guessed 20 (10 away).

In the lurker contest, 1st-2nd would be tied, and 3rd-4th would be tied. I assume @Rmilia1 would split the prize money for the ties, meaning $187.50 for the top 2, and $62.50 for the other two. But he’ll have to clarify that. [He did. Tied prizes are split.] I don’t believe there were tiebreakers for that contest. [There weren’t.]

Disclaimer: There are literally several thousand spreadsheet cells involved in this with lots of formulas. That is why I will post all the data when it’s over so the winners and not-so-winners can verify that I got it right. Spreadsheets are foolproof; the fools who enter the data and program the cells are not. So I welcome audits!

111 points after 30 minutes projects to 148 for 40. Not that it will work that way, but for what it’s worth…

Another thought: seems like you should get credit for an assist if you pass the ball to a player who goes to the basket and gets fouled in the act of shooting. Like getting credit in baseball for an RBI if you hit a sacrifice fly. Well, not exactly like…

Regardless, Braden Smith sure is an outstanding point guard!
