Participants ranked from the 2nd highest score down to the lowest score will automatically be entered into a random draw for the Booby Prize Giveaway!

10 – Competitions and Giveaways
Any member wishing to take part in forum competitions and/or giveaways must meet the following criteria:

:heavy_check_mark: Have a live account – Any player with a disabled account at the time will not be eligible.
:heavy_check_mark: Have regular account activity – Players must be depositing and playing on a regular basis.
:heavy_check_mark: Be an active forum member – Not only visiting to take part in competitions/giveaways.

All winners will be checked by the Moderator in charge of the specific competition/giveaway and any player not following the above will be disqualified.

Thanks, @Rhyz_Bovada. I won’t take credit for this, though, primarily because I suggested a booby prize award, and this isn’t one. I suggest it be renamed to Consolation Prize Giveaway.

Definitions, from dictionary.com:

booby prize: a prize given in good-natured ridicule to the worst player or team in a game or contest.

consolation prize: a prize, usually of minor value, given to the loser or runner-up in a contest, competition, etc., or to all losers who have performed well or met certain standards.

I believe those are widely understood in the United States. Perhaps in other English-speaking countries the definitions vary.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m fine with any :moneybag: giveaways by Bovada! And I have no issue with this one. It’s just not what I suggested. I was thinking along the lines of 1/10 as much as the first place prize money being awarded to the person or persons who came in dead last each week. For the weekly hockey and soccer contests that pay $100 to the winner, that would be a $10 prize, enough to be appreciated, and perhaps to take away a little of the sting and despair of performing so poorly that week! EPICALLY POORLY! :sob:

Thanks for clarifying @StndrDeviant and I completely understand your point. It was definitely not intended to misunderstand your original suggestion.

You are correct regarding the distinction between a “booby prize” and a “consolation prize,” and I appreciate you taking the time to explain it so clearly. Your idea of rewarding the weekly last-place finisher specifically is understood and makes sense in that context.

That said, the main purpose of the current giveaway remains similar in spirit — giving players who did not place at the top, from the lowest scorers up to the second-highest, a chance to still receive a consolation prize through a random draw.

We truly appreciate the suggestion and the feedback, and of course we’re always happy to see enthusiasm for any Bovada giveaways! :slightly_smiling_face:
